Dr Imogen Bell is a researcher at the Orygen, The University of Melbourne. She is an expert in digital treatments for mental health difficulties. Imogen is one of the AMETHYST trial investigators and therapists.
In this interview Imogen provides an update on the Mello smartphone app, which helps young people with depression and anxiety manage stuck thinking in daily life. She also explains how and why researchers are using virtual reality to help people with a range of mental health problems, including MIND.
Imogen and the hosts go onto discuss how virtual reality has been applied to help people who hear voices. She also introduces avatar therapy and the AMETHYST trial which is building on research to date and adapting the therapy for telehealth sessions. The show also discusses future directions for virtual reality treatments and the possible role of AI.
